On June 13, 2016, Bournewood Hospital in Brookline, MA opened a new Partial Hospital Program for adults in mental health crisis. The Mental Health Partial Hospital Program is a step-down or diversionary service for adults who need more intensive treatment than can be provided in an outpatient setting. According to Bournewood’s Director of Ambulatory and Social Services Daniel Tarlin, LICSW, LADC I, “We are using an evidence-based practice called Behavioral Activation as the base for our program.  This is a cognitive-behavioral system structured to help people make positive changes.”

Adults with mood or anxiety disorders, as well individuals with other major mental illness who can appropriately participate in a group setting, are appropriate candidates who would potentially benefit from this program.  Compassionate clinicians meet the person where they are in the course of their illness and work to help them reach their goals of recovery. Medication and case management services are available in this program as well.

One special note: While they are located on South Street in Brookline they are able to provide transportation from the Forest Hills MBTA Station as well as a few other publicly accessible locations nearby.  To learn more about the program or to make a referral,  call the program direct line (617) 676-3585 between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday – Friday. You can also call Bournewood’s 24/7 Admissions Line (800) 468-4358 at night and on the weekends, or go to their website www.bournewood.com.
